Take, for instance, Sully the Sheep, who first premiered last year in Corona Light’s “Stan” commercial and after garnering considerable online admiration, he’s now the star of 5 Corona Light commercials. The good folks that make 7 Up yours have now reduced your caloric intake down to 10 sweet calories per serving. To celebrate, fans across the country created commercials to help roll out the new, improved beverage. Here are the four winners, 3 of which are LOL awesome. Which one do you think is just meh?

Arguably the best film critic has left us. While certainly the most inspirational one, we say arguably because his friendly rival and fellow critic, Gene Siskel, also deserves a shot at the title. Lots will be said about his contributions to cinema and the world. We’d like to focus on a lesser-known aspect of his career, that of 70s cult classics. Ebert actually co-wrote the screenplay for the 1970 Russ Meyer film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
which was the drive-in sub-genre’s titillating response to Valley of the Dolls, trading pill-popping for pillow fights. Ebert and Meyer went on to make Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens
and Up!
, among others.

While not adopting the medium readily, Ebert had over 31,000 tweets. As cancer would take his throat and jaw, Twitter would later become his most resonating medium. In fact, this author benefitted from a “thumbs up” tweet from him in 2010 for creating the Denzel Washington Venn Diagram on Maxim.com. With a new Denzel movie coming out, he found it clever, thorough and very timely. Unfortunately, someone stole the diagram, reposted it as theirs and initially got the praise. But, we set him straight and he gave us our due. We’d just like to say thanks, for the movies, the screenplays, the personal thumbs up and your love of cinema.

We can’t find the proof any longer, but Roger Ebert publicly lauded this Venn Diagram.

Dude, when you were like, 7, (and, if you’re old!) there was nothing more kickass than having your own Green Machine. The name was right, the design was like nothing you’d ever seen and it was wipeout city as soon as you got it out of the box. It’s like the marketing gods got something reeeaally right for once…. instant street cred. Sometimes, we wish cool things like this were just as sweetly ubiquitous as this bad boy when you’re all grown up. So what the hell, Wham-O!!? Where you at?

This winter I wrote about my adventures in cyber-dating, sharing my do’s and don’ts with women on HelloGiggles.com. It was well-received, but I hated to leave the men out of the race. Thankfully for you, I have much knowledge to impart. 

11. Golf Clap for Attendees

So, guys, you’ve signed up for a dating website. You’ve taken the leap. First of all, I applaud you. It takes courage to hide behind your computer and try to meet women without lifting a finger. No, really though – it does take courage. So, pat yourself on the back. That’s the good news. The bad news is, there’s still a lot of work to do…

10. No Need for 2 Tickets!
That’s right, girls don’t collect guns. Please, please, please, use a photo of yourself in which you’re wearing a shirt, in which you are not flexing your muscles at the gym (or not at the gym), and in which we can clearly see your face. You would think that last one goes without saying, but I once came across a profile in which the lad had chosen a self-taken photo in the mirror, the flash obstructing his head.

9. Say Cheese, Burger King!

Even better, choose a photo in which you’re smiling and either doing something you love to do (playing with your dog, at a baseball game, riding your bike across the Golden Gate Bridge) or in which you’re dressed how you normally dress. That’s right, that means no Halloween costumes.

8. Tell Us More Than a Little About Yourself

When answering the dreaded “about you” questions, take them at least partially seriously. You don’t have to say you would take your family and friends with you if you were stranded on a deserted island. Everyone loves his family and friends. It’s ok to say an unlimited supply of beer and suntan lotion or a TV with ESPN. Do you see where I’m going with this? Show your personality! But, in so doing… don’t refer to us as “the ladies,” or other possibly derogatory slang. Remember your audience! (Besides, if you’re a hit with “the ladies” what are you doing on here? Starting a softball team?)

7. Shower to Smell Good/Word Doc to Spell Good

Absolutely do not miss this note: Please use proper spelling and grammar. There’s a difference between seeming stupid and “gettin’ stoopid.” If you never placed in a spelling bee, start your bio in something with spell check, such as Microsoft Word, or an OpenSource equivalent.

6. A Wink, a Nod and a Poke

 It’s totally okay to wink before you say hello. If you favorite her first though, she’s notified automatically. So, wait a bit because she could choose to wink at you in response. Otherwise the ball is in your court. Either way, if she winks back, DO NOT wage a ‘wink war’—be prepared to respond with a message. But, before you do…

5. The Man in the Mirror

So, you found a girl you’d like to eventually ask out. Awesome. Here is my best advice on sending messages to women who catch your attention. Before you send your message, do the flip-side test. Take what you know about the girl from her profile and ask yourself what she would think of you. If you have very different interests, are in vastly different age groups, or live in different regions of the country, you would probably be wasting both of your time. No one needs more friends. You signed up for this site because you want a girlfriend, right? If you honestly think there’s a chance you have found a good match and that she could maybe feel the same way, then let’s write a message.

4. Hey, Hemmingway, Time to Leave Miami and Hit the Keys

That’s right, I said write a message. Do not copy and paste. We know when you’re sending us a template message. Write something original. Reference her profile and often in the same move, I know – this is so smooth – you can point out something about yourself! “I’m a Steelers fan too!” or “I don’t know a lot about wine, but I am hoping to hit up a tasting on my next trip to California,” would both work here. That’s really all it takes. We don’t need a line. Especially not a line of Bull.

3. Hellooooo, Gorgeous!

We don’t need to hear, “you’re gorgeous,” from a complete stranger. We like to hear it from someone we know and admire. You’re working towards that by initiating the conversation. Save the compliments until well into the first date, if at all.

2. In Closing… Buck-Up!

When you end your first message to the girl of your dreams, don’t end it with “message me back if you…” Close it as you would a normal letter or email. If we like what we see, we will message you back. If not, don’t let your feelings get in the way, move on to the next.

1. You Can Pick Your Friends, and You Can Pick Your Nose…

One last thing: It’s ok to be picky as well as persistent. Don’t message 30 girls a day. You have to know yourself well enough to know what you like.  As is true with many things, guys, quality – not quantity.

Meet the 2014 LaFerrari. As in, Ferrari LaFerrari. Also as in, “Hey, sheikh, that’s a Sweet LaFerrari.”
Not that you’d ever get so close to one as to pay its Royal driver a compliment. Production is limited to 499 examples (with a pre-order list numbering over 700). And, of course, those lucky enough to have both the financial means and the political connections to move up on the waitlist will be too busy testing its 963hp hybrid gas-electric engine to stop for photos…Which is a shame, because its looks are almost striking enough to make you forget the dismal name that someone from Lamborghini surely must have phoned in as a prank. Almost.

Let’s, for a moment, review the history of Ferrari supercars. In 1984, having re-invigorated their brand with the global publicity of the 308 series (a la Magnum PI) and expanded “mass-production” assembly line (a whopping 6 cars per day by then!) , Ferrari launched a land rocket known as the 288 GTO. It took on the Lamborghini Countach, and reminded the auto industry that Ferrari was not just another pretty face, but also the industry leader in engine technology. In 1987, the company rolled out the F40, celebrating forty years in business (as well as an uncanny ability to make Porsche 959 buyers frown). Then came the F50 in 1995 – with production stopping on the 50th anniversary. And of course, Ferrari’s last supercar outing, the 2002 Enzo, paid homage to the company’s founder by taking his name. And what of this fifth generation installment? The Maranello brass claims “ it is the maximum expression of what defines our company – excellence.”

Because nothing says excellence like forgetting to name your flagship model. How about the Ford TheFord? Or the Audi DasAudi? I mean, c’mon, LaFerrari?!?! This is a car that can do 0-60 in the 2 somethings. This is a car that can effortlessly cross the 200mph barrier. This is a car that can recharge its electric batteries off of braking force from torque converters at the wheels. This is… ahh, never mind. A picture’s worth a thousand words, almost all of which probably sound better than LaFerrari.

It may surprise you to know that country star Mindy McCready was a friend and fan of this website. We met her during the height of her fame many moons ago, and were quickly forgotten as her star was so rapidly rising. Fast forward ten years or more and we meet again in our favorite bar. Some people have an aura about them, so that even in a crowd you can see only them. Mindy possessed this power, and, after getting over the irresistible urge to offer a quick hello, the next thing you know we were getting a table and ordering Bloody Mary’s.

We will miss you.

It was 2009, and she was on the upswing. She had just finished taping with Dr. Drew. Before long, we resolved to get her Celebrity Rehab confessional and photo shoot for Maxim magazine, but Entertainment Weekly beat us to the punch and revealed her exclusive story. Our friendship rekindled, we would meet at her favorite songwriter’s night and order hot saki to ward off the cold. While in the audience, she would sing along with every song she liked and occasionally get onstage for an impromptu duet. Her voice never sounded better.

She was fearless and unapologetic, and this, combined with her talent and looks rocketed her to fame. Once her star began to shine less brightly, it baffled her that the same tactics weren’t reaping the usual big rewards. Deep down, Mindy had a big heart, and the consequences of these actions would be her undoing. It pains us to know that heart was broken, so much so that she took her own life (though the investigation is currently still pending).

Below is a snapshot of our Facebook timeline two years ago to the month where Mindy responded to a reader survey entitled “Show Us Your Broham.” In automobiles, just as in her halcyon days as a talented country star, she had great taste in luxury and performance.

Lotta fun to be had this year at the Chicago Auto Show. So much so, in fact, we made this video. There are so many cars, that if you spent all day there, you wouldn’t see all of them. God knows we certainly tried! Also, you can take a boatload of photos and video and run outta patience waiting for it to upload and accept your edits. And that’s when you come up with something like what we did… which, is still kinda awesome.
