About Us
As decided Desciples of Dudeism, we’d like to recite to you the first chapter of Ye Olde Duderonomy, Verse 1, which reads, “Thou shalt commit this mantra to memory: Brothers Before Brassieres.” We’ve condensed this to Bros B4 Bras. While ladies are important, too much time and devotion to their cause isn’t good on a brother’s constitution. This axiom was somehow lost in the 90s, so we’re here to spread the good word to our Broham Nation.
What is a broham?
Brò-ham (BRO-ham): A synonym for brother, stemming from the vernacular spelling and pronunciation of the original word ‘Brougham.’ In the late 70s, the word ‘brother’ was commonly shortened to ‘bro’ which beget ‘broham’ and a slew of similar terms: ‘brohamulus,’ ‘brocephus,’ ‘brah.’ A brougham was originally an automotive sedan with an enclosed passenger compartment but no roof over the front end. Starting in the 1950s Cadillac used the name for some exclusive versions of their 4-door ElDorado and Fleetwood sedans. Being top of the line cars, Broughams tend to be status symbols. In the US, “Brougham” is supposed to be pronounced “Broam,” rhyming with “foam.” However in contemporary vernacular, its often pronounced “Bro-HAM,” since the word appears to have two syllables.
